Welcome to HRG
Our vision is that all individuals, communities, and governmental agencies will recognize the importance of contact with nature to the health and well-being of humans and the planet. We hope this recognition will lead to the normalization of, and demand for, increased use of nature-based solutions in urban and residential planning to yield improvements in environmental equity and justice, maintenance and restoration of biodiversity, and adaptation to our changing planet. Finally, we hope this recognition will facilitate adaptation to climate change leading to more sustainable and resilient communities. Towards this end, our purpose is to provide data and clear explanations of its importance in order to inform policy and decisions regarding the appropriate use of nature-based interventions to improve individual, community, and planetary health.
About Our Work
The Horton Research Group's mission is to use rigorous scientific methods, including community-based participatory research,
and physiological and psychological assessments, to test hypotheses that access to natural landscapes
contributes to improved health, well-being, and resilience of humans by offering an escape from the stressors of
urban life. We also evaluate programs to assess feasibility, acceptability, and outcomes of methods. We use a mixed-methods approach applying qualitative and quantitative data. Learn more about our research projects by clicking the links below or go to our research projects page.
